Warm Up 1 9/10/12
1.They Seal receives 1% energy from the primary consumer and the shark recieves 0.1% energy from the seal. 90% energy is used by the organism and only 10% is passed on.
2. An example of producer /consumer is Phytoplankton and clam. The phytoplankton is the producer and the clam is the consumer. Producers can make their own food while consumers cannot. The consumers have to really on other organisms for food.
An example of Predator/Prey is the Shark and seal. The predator gets the energy from the seal which is 10%. The Shark is the predator and the seal is the prey.
3.The Clam is primary consumer as it is the one feeding on the phytoplankton.
Warm Up 2 9/14/12
1.The deer and rabbit would compete for the broadleaf weeds. They are competing because they have the same resource.
Warm Up 3 9/17/12
1.Plants compete for sunlight, water, nutrients, and soil for structure.
2.Plants would compete for sunlight if there are other plants crowding it.Plants would compete for water if there is a drought. Plants would compete if there is a limited amount of resources.
Warm Up 4 9/18/12
1. The ice caps have melted and it is easier for them to find their prey but it is dangerous for the polar bears as the ice can crack and they can fall in and die. They would have to migrate and go find other polar ice caps.
Warm Up 5 9/19/12
1. The environment is getting warmer.
2. Long term as it has been getting warmer for a long period of time.
3. The future populations will have shorter fur due to natural selection. There probably were only a few rabbits with longer fur.
Warm Up 6 9/20/12
1.It is a long term environmental change as now the whole ecosystem is full of lava and animals cannot live in a place like that. It would have to cool down then restore the ecosystem back for the wildlife to live.
2.The organism would have to leave its environment and ecosystem as quick as possible or not it would die.
Warm Up 7 9/25/12
Interspecific competition is when organisms from different species fight with each other.
Red squirrels competing with the gray squirrels.
Intraspecific competition is when organisms from the same breed or species fight with each other.
Gray squirrels competing with other gray squirrels.
These types of competition happens when there are limited resources and they occupy the same niche.
Warm Up 8 9/26/12
The whole ecosystem is going to be shaken, resources are limited so some have to move out and the others will fight and eventually the ecosystem will be balanced.
Darwin's finches beaks changed over time to adapt to the the environmental changes. They all ate different types of food.
